Welcome to the SMC renovation website. Here you will find useful information on the prior renovations as well as some upcoming renovations. As a new or returning student you may not recognize some areas of the SMC or you may be confused with the construction which is happening. Construction crews are back to work today after spending yesterday digging out from our weekend storm. Please check our Pictures link for update pictures of the site. Crews are working on the footers for the new Open Recreation Area, the mechanical room, and the elevator pit.

The mechanical room at the south end of the building is nearing completion as the walls are being placed this week. In addition, the elevator pit has been dug outside the old RMPR entrance. You may have noticed that the site has been brought up to grade in front of the building. Construction crews are now digging the trenches for the footings of the new student organizational/student programs addition. The steel delivery has been pushed back to December 8. Happy Thanksgiving!
The wet weather has slowed progress at the site slightly. The soil remediation is about finished and that will open the site to the foundation work and steel. Weather permitting, we should see the steel framework of the addition begin to take shape on December 3!
A small portion of the Open Rec Area has been taken for the construction of an emergency exit hallway. This hallway is required per code once the emergency exit at the south end of the Open Rec Area is no longer accessible. The construction of the hallway has eliminated the use of one basketball net.
On Monday, contractors began digging the hole that will be the main mechanical room for the building addition. The hole is located on the southeast corner of the existing Open Rec Area. The site should become a little louder over the coming days as workers begin to remove the rock that is in this area.
The south vestibule at the RMPR building entrance will be demolished on Monday, October 5. Look for pictures of this work to be posted shortly!
The University held a pre-bid conference on September 24, 2009. Bids for phase 2 are due on November 2, 2009.

Phase II of the SMC renovation began this morning with the assembly of the site fencing. This phase includes the construction of the addition to the south and east sides of the building. The additions to the Fitness Center, construction of the Student Program and Student Organizational Offices, construction of the atrium, and the new Information Desk will be completed during this phase.
The South entrance nearest the Reighard Multipurpose Room will be closed for the entire project.

The entire Fitness Center is scheduled to be re-opened on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 15. At this time, the reception desk and main entrance will return to their original locations. The locker rooms are still under construction and will be completed in the near future.
